This could effect us all at some point...
28th September 2007
There's one thing I don't miss about not having a proper job anymore... All right, there are loads of things I don't miss office politics, communal toilets, a guy called Reg who used to push me in the back by way of a greeting, even if I was holding a scalding cup of tea... But there's one thing I REALLY don't miss... and that's giving a presentation. I remember the feeling of twenty pairs of eyes all turning on you as you stand up to r ..

A Scotsman, a German and a South African walk into a bar... Sorry, not a bar, a barn. No, this isn't a joke. And before you call the police, Lara hasn't slipped something into my tea either. The Scotsman, the German and the South African I'm referring to were all guests at a fantastic wedding I went to last weekend. And it just so happened to be in a barn. This really was one of the best days of the year for me. First, I watched a man ..

Today, I'm going to turn the letter over to YOU - the smart, clever, no doubt handsome readers of The Good Life Letter. Because over the last week or so, many of you have written in with advice, tips and ideas so great that I just have to share them with our fellow Good Lifers. And one of them in particular, Lynne, has written in with a brilliant view on how to handle M.E. Seriously, if this affects your life in any way, this will help. Besi ..

A new revelation about coffee
27th April 2007
As you've probably guessed, I'm a voracious reader. I read pretty much anything. If someone leaves a leaflet on a park bench. I'll pick it up and take a look. If a gibbering man on the street is giving away books about Scientology, the End of the World or reincarnation, I take THREE copies. And… you might find this weird... but I deliberately subscribe to as many mail-order catalogues as possible. Not only is it a good way of finding out ..

I never knew this could make you fat
14 February 2005
The other day my friend Geoff leant back in his chair, patted his considerable stomach and said 'this is all down to too much stress'. I couldn't help laughing. I reminded him how he enjoyed his food, not to mention the odd pint, and asked him when was the last time he'd seen the inside of the gym. I was surprised by his answer. Since Christmas he's cut out the drink and snacking. He eats relatively healthy, and he leaves the car at home and w ..

Did you know that snoring is the third most common reason why couples split up? No, neither did I. In fact I think Lara's just made it up to make a point. Because, apparently, my snoring has been horrific over the past couple of days. Actually, it's no laughing matter (and I'm not just saying that because Lara's threatened me with the spare room). Snoring can be a sign that you may be suffering from sleep apnea. Sleep what? Maybe you've ne ..

Do you feel tired all the time?
9 August 2005
Is it just me, or is everyone tired these days? Whenever I say, 'How are you?' to a friend, or an elderly Aunty, or even a teenage relative, I get the same answer. 'Oh, tired. You know...' Well, as a matter of fact, I DO know. Society is becoming ever more prey to fatigue, thanks to our heavy, irregular diets... our late-night television watching... and our over-prescribed drugs... How about you? Do you seem to feel tired all the time? Then ..

The hidden cause of depression and chronic fatigue
17th August 2005
How's this for an introduction... 'When my Dad went to the toilet it was like a gas attack in the First World War. We would rush outside gasping and choking for air. Even the dog ran outside!' Now, you might think I've just met Bernard Manning, or I've been watching Carry On films for the past few days. But in fact, this was a confession from a chap called Ron Gellatley, a remarkable Naturopath, Nutritionist, Medical Herbalist and Homeopath. ..

Is Prince Charles a secret Good-lifer?
26th May, 2006
If I woke up one night to find Lara digging a big hole in the garden, I wouldn't be surprised. Before you jump to the wrong conclusion, I don't think she's plotting to kill me. Sure, she might threaten to kill me from time to time (cue last week when me and the kids took apart Matt's bike and laid it out all over the kitchen floor). But she's only kidding. Isn't she...? Anyway, I don't for a minute think she's planning to bury me in the garde ..

Why there's no cure for heart disease
02 September 2005
It's one of the big cons of modern times. Since the late 1960s and 70s, scientists have been searching for a cure for cancer. 'We're nearly there,' they say every year, 'just give us some more cash.' And here we are in 2005. Cancer everywhere, and yet still no cure for cancer. Hmmm... They say the same about the cure for diabetes, and a host of ailments of the 21st Century. But could it be that the 'cure' isn't the answer? There are no pat ..
