A vitamin that can battle old age

12th May, 2006

I was at my Goddaughter's house up in Sheffield a few weeks back.

Matt, her dad and my old university friend, had set up a small trampoline in the garden. After bouncing for a while, she clambered off and said, 'You have a go, Uncle Ray.'

Well, it looked sturdy enough. But I hadn't been on a trampoline since I was about 15.

As usual, I immediately thought I was still able to turn a few tricks.

'Watch this,' I said, lifting myself into the air and dropping onto my knees on the trampoline, before bouncing up to my feet again.

'OWWWWWW' I thought to myself, my knees suddenly throbbing.

Of course, I kept smiling.

Smiling, smiling, smiling.

'That's enough for me,' I said, getting off, still smiling.

I hadn't damaged anything, but what I realised for about the third time in the last year that my body has got older, I can't really to be spontaneous like that any more.

No more bouncing for Uncle Ray until he learns to limber up a bit first.

Seeing me wince, Lara was beside herself with laughter.

Use Vitamin B3 to battle the problems old age
********************************************

Yes, there's also a good reason to keep exercising your brain as you get older even if it's just a bit of online bingo.

Staying active mentally really can improve your brain function.

And another weapon in the frontline against premature ageing is vitamin B3.

Vitamin B3 (or niacin) has long been known to lower cholesterol. But in the August 2004 issue of the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry they claim that it can also arm you against Alzheimer's disease and agerelated cognitive decline.

In their study they found that those getting the most niacin (22 mg per day) were 70% less likely to have developed Alzheimer's disease than those eating about
13 mg daily.

You can boost your vitamin B3 by eating foods like mushrooms, tuna, calf liver, halibut, asparagus, venison, lamb, turkey and chicken breast, green vegetables, prawns and peanuts.

You can also use Vitamin B3 to help 'reduce swelling, pain and joint stiffness.'

Dr. Jonathan V. Wright, an American physician, says that '...analysis of Xrays has shown that this vitamin can also halt the degeneration of joints in cases of arthritis.

'Another great advantage of this vitamin is that it does not cause unwanted sideeffects (weakening of bone mass, gastric ulcers, etc.) as do common anti inflammatory medications.'

You can find out more about this in 'How to Get Rid of Arthritis and Rheumatism'. Without a doubt, this is the best book I've read on the subject. It's so easy to follow and carry out the recommendations.

For example, there's a way to cut your medication intake by 95% and benefit from the same effects, with no health problems. Plus, find out about the fat that destroys your joints... and how to avoid recurring bursitis and leg cramps.

It's well worth the look. Just click here:

Your very good question about Kidney Pure
************************************************

Since I recommended it a few weeks back, I've had a few emails about Kidney Pure. Some of you use it already... some highly recommend it...

...and a few of you asked a very, very good question in relation to the 3-month risk-free trial offer.

'We would like to try it, and the 3 month trial offer is fine and dandy,' wrote a Good Lifer, 'but how does one know that this product is doing its job?'

I emailed the manufacturers of Kidney Pure, who told me:

'Results can differ between patients and depend upon on the frequency of use of Kidney Pure and any underlying disease state. However the common benefits that most people experience in the short term are clearer skin, brighter eyes, increased levels of energy, improved concentration and increased kidney efficiency.'

So there you go. If you haven't noticed these symptoms of improvement in 3 months, just send it back and get a refund.

I'll give you the link again:

More ways to protect yourself from heat
-----------------------------------------------------

In the wake of my letter about sun, I received a few more tips from readers that may help you if it's a hot summer.

H.D writes:

'I have been working in countries where it can get extremely hot and very often have had to deal with people suffering from over-exposure - dizziness, nausea, etc. I found that in a glass of water put one teaspoon of salt, 3 teaspoons of sugar and a squeeze of lemon juice (optional).

'The sugar allows the stomach to accept salt, otherwise it will act as an emetic. Within an hour of drinking this slowly the person will feel a lot better. This is regardless of whether the person is on a salt free diet or not.'

In a similar vein, G.B writes:

'I spent several years in the Middle East (Qatar). After being out in the desert where the air is so dry one can lose pints of water without noticing. The perspiration dries as it appears on your skin and one is unaware of water loss.

'The heat was such that the company supplied salt tablets to be taken as and when. After a couple of years a new team doctor arrived. When I requested a new supply of salt tablets he declined to issue any and told me to follow this procedure:

1. Take a glass of water and put in a quarter of a
teaspoonful of salt and stir it in.

2. Taste the water and if salt is not detected stir in more
salt.

3. Continue this process until you can just taste the
presence of salt.

4. Drink down the contents of the glass.

The doctors objection to salt tablets was the very slow dissolution rate - if you lacked salt you needed it straight away.

The system certainly works. I occasionally took only a very little salt in order to taste it. Other times I have added as much as two teaspoonfuls to a glass of water before detecting the taste of salt.

P.B, sent in this tip:

'I always had peeling skin after sunburn until I started taking Vitamin E, 400iu's a day, since which I've been able to tan without peeling.'

Thanks for all your letters. If I haven't responded here, be assured that I am following up your queries and topic ideas for future letters.

Like I say, it's hard to respond to everyone directly - and I'm not responsible for giving one-to-one medical advice. But please keep reading for more tips and ideas.
