Why you should NEVER take drugs for this common illness

12th September 2008

Some days I think cavemen had it easier...

They ate healthily, they didn't have to worry
about mortgage payments and they didn't rely on
computers.

Or if they did, they'd have none of the problems
I'm having today, because their computers would
be made of stone and easy to fix. A chap called
Ug would pop along, take a look at it, say it
would cost five bison to fix, and that would be
that.

But here I am, sitting in front of a computer that's
telling me I'm online, but whenever I actually try
to use it tells me to go online first.

AAAAAARRGHHH!!

I swear I can see the thing shaking with laughter
each time I try to log on.

'Balding human fool,' it thinks, 'you'll NEVER
work this out. AND you think Wales have a good
football team. Ahahahahaaaaaha!'

So, in a few minutes time I'll be trying to send
you today's issue of The Good Life Letter without
really knowing if it's going to get there or not.

But my fingers are crossed (when they're not
busy hitting my computer with a hammer),
because I have an important point to make today
one I believe could help you stay (or get)
healthier, faster...

Another reason to be jealous of cavemen...

Last week I told you about The Honey, Garlic &
Vinegar Miracle a book written by me and
packed with 129 ways honey, garlic and vinegar
can tackle all sorts of problems.

(Find out more at www.hgvmiracle.co.uk )

But the point I want to focus on today is the fact
that all three of these remedies are 100% natural
and are pretty much close to what our cave
dwelling ancestors would have eaten before the
days of manmade pills, glossy advertising and
24hour chemists.

Let's face it, if Ug had a headache or felt rotten,
he wouldn't be off to the doctors for something
he could take before meals to mask the pain.
Nor would he be watching a Flintstonesstyle TV
telling him that all his weight problems could be
solved by drinking a supershake instead of his
usual brontoburger.
No, Ug would rely on natural ingredients to help
his body fight the cause of the problem.

It's just instinctive.

But over the years, the majority of us have
gradually been persuaded that natural ways are
out-dated, and modern remedies brewed up in
labs are the answer.

And that's causing us a lot of new problems...

The health equivalent of global warming...

For years the problem of global warming was
never raised. That's because people didn't even
know about it.

Of course, when you were stuck in traffic in the
middle of hundreds of cars pumping out exhaust
fumes on a hot day (remember them?), you had
a sneaking suspicion that it couldn't be good for
us or the environment.

But somehow, the planet just seemed to
miraculously gobble the fumes up, or they just
floated off into space. So no lasting damage
done.

For my sins, I used to think pretty much along
these lines. Somehow I thought the planet could
take pretty much anything we threw at it.

Pollution, landfill, mining, cutting down trees...
like a prize fighter, earth would take all these
punches on the chin and still win the fight.

Well, these days it's 100% clear that the earth
can't take all these punches. And if we don't do
something about it - and something drastic -
pretty soon, then we'll kill it off.

Simple as that.

Well, the same thing is happening with our health.
And it's every bit as frightening and serious as
global warming.

I guess you could call it global harming - and
according to a recent report, we could be in
serious trouble if we're not careful.

Here's the problem...

According to the Health Protection Agency, 12%
of bloodstream infections in the UK caused by
E.coli are no longer responding to treatment.

Basically, this deadly virus is getting used to the
antibiotics we're throwing at it. And because our
bodies have become so dependent on these
antibiotics, they're in no position to fight back.

It's the equivalent of a rich man suddenly having
all his bodyguards deserting him, and being left
to face an angry mob on his own.

This rich man has been pampered and spoilt and
has never thrown a punch in his adult life, so
what chance does he have? The truth is, his
defences have become lazy, and they've left him
open to attack.

Well the same is happening to people up and
down the country. Antibiotics are providing less
and less protection - because we've overused
them on stupid things like niggly coughs and
head colds.

Rather than getting our bodies used to fighting
common ailments, we've become reliant on
antibiotics to do our fighting for us.

Which means that when a serious condition
comes along, we need to take stronger
antibiotics to fight them, which in turn could
cause more side effects.

When NEVER to take antibiotics

As Dr David Livermore, an infections expert at
the Health Protection Agency said...

'The NHS must be careful over its use of
antibiotics to slow down the development of
resistance.

'GPs should nor prescribe, nor patients expect,
antibiotics for routine coughs and colds.'

I couldn't agree more.

Of course, there are going to be times when you
need to see your doctor - and there are going to
be times when you need to take antibiotics or
man-made drugs.
But when it comes to everyday ailments like
coughs or colds, I find it incredible that people
take man-made drugs when there are powerful,
natural remedies that do the job just as well -
without the side effects.

5 natural ways to help your body beat common
health niggles

- Ginger is a powerful warming herb that fights
colds with real gusto. It can help break down
the mucus that builds up in your sinuses and
lungs, and increases circulation which warms
your body. Just grate some fresh ginger into
a cup (about one tsp should do it), pour on
boiling water and let it stand for 10 minutes
before sitting down and sipping it. All right
then - with a biscuit.

- Honey - here we go again... Ray talking
about honey. Well I'm not going to stop,
because honey is one of the most powerful
remedies around. Personally I have some
every day regardless of how I feel, and I
think you should too. (Actually, if you want
to buy some super-powerful honey, just hold
on till next week. All will be revealed then!)

- Garlic - chop up 4-6 cloves of garlic and
stick them in a jar of honey. Leave the jar for
a month, then remove the cloves and you'll
be left with the best remedy for a sore throat
you've ever tried. Antibiotics....? Bah!

- Apples - an apple a day keeps the, er...
headache away. Peel the apple, add a little
salt (just a touch) and eat first thing in the
morning on an empty stomach. You should
find your headache ebbing away.

- Cinnamon - but not on your food. Try
making a paste of this by mixing it with
water, then rub the mixture into your forehead
and temples for relief. Messy, but at least
you can ditch the pill bottle!

There are hundreds of powerful remedies out
there that can help protect us from serious
ailments, but naturally these need to be taken in
conjunction with your doctor and with anything he
or she prescribes.

But when it comes to nuisance everyday ailments
like a sore throat or a cold, using natural
remedies is a no-brainer.

Of course if symptoms persist then you need to
see your GP, but don't go rushing off to the
surgery at the first sign of a sniffle. Instead use
these powerful natural treatments, and give your
body a chance to learn how to fight by itself!

That's all for today. I wonder if there's a natural
remedy for over-typing? I would go and check
on-line, but my computer's still not speaking to
me.
