A deadly threat that doesn't have feathers

3rd March 2006

It's funny isn't it...?

If a chicken falls down dead, it makes headlines all over the world.

But if a 'study' of 30 million people shows that many of them are under threat from big business, everything goes quiet.

Take this point in question...

Recently a cat was found dead in northern Germany with the H5N1 bird flu virus.

Experts believe the cat probably contracted the disease by eating infected birds.

Okay, that's not very nice.

But unless I suddenly feel the urge to pounce on the bird bath in the garden, I don't feel particularly threatened by this.

Still, that little bit of logic didn't stop the news hounds making the most of it. And it gave them the chance to trot out their favoured reaction:

'Bird flu does not pose a largescale threat to humans because it can't be passed on easily.

However, the experts fear the virus could mutate at some point in the future and trigger a lethal pandemic.'

What else do they fear...?

That at some point in the future, aliens could visit earth and destroy us all? That humans will mutate into giant blobs that just eat and sleep?

Lara says I've made that leap already, but that's beside the point.

What I'm really trying to say here is this: where are these experts when you really need them...?

-------------------------------------------------
This threat doesn't have feathers, but it's killing thousands...
--------------------------------------------------

I mentioned a study involving 30 million people...

Well, I've twisted the story a little, just to make a point, but the outcome is no less shocking...

A recent report has revealed that Vietnam is enjoying huge economic growth at the moment, a fact that's led to a rash of Western fast food joints spreading across the country.

And this 'progress' has triggered an epidemic that's killed as many people as Aids.

Yet it's hardly talked about.

Even a cat gets more headlines.

Have you guessed what the epidemic is yet?

It's diabetes, and if you needed a conclusive link between fast foods and this disease, this is it.

------------------------------------------
The tsunami disease and how you can avoid it
------------------------------------------

170 million people were affected by diabetes in 2000.

By 2025, doctors predict that number will hit 370 million.

That's a spare 200 million victims that have yet to be hit.

Make no mistake diabetes could easily turn into the biggest threat to the world's population. Far bigger than bird flu.

So what can you do?

One thing's for sure, you can't turn to the drugs companies and expect an honest answer

-------------------------------------------------------
An epidemic of good health is a drug company's nightmare
-------------------------------------------------------
Once upon a time there was a magical drug called Rezulin. It was pushed by the manufacturers - Warner-Lambert Co, and sounded perfect.

Except for one tint detail they forgot to mention...

There was every reason to believe the drug could damage the liver.

Ooops.

Eventually, Rezulin was withdrawn from the U.S. market in March 2000, having made $2.1 billion in sales for Warner-Lambert.

So, as ever, I look at synthetic drugs with a great deal of suspicion.

Of course, you must always check things out with your doctor, and follow his recommendations. But if you're more informed, you can ask him about other remedies...

Perhaps ones that don't cause liver damage. Now wouldn't that be nice?

-----------------------------------
5 natural ways to deal with a true pandemic
-----------------------------------

Here are some natural, healthy ways to protect you and your family from the true pandemic - diabetes.

1. Cut down on the fast foods.

I know I know, it's something I bang on about regularly, but this is the no. 1 way to make an instant change.

But notice, I don't say ban it or cut it out altogether.

If you absolutely love a burger, then have the odd one every now and then. Keeping healthy doesn't have to equate to a life of misery as some people would have you believe.

2. Bitter melon - this tropical vegetable has been used extensively in folk medicine as a remedy for diabetes.

The blood sugar lowering action of the fresh juice or extract of the unripe fruit has been showed to lower blood sugar effectively, because it contains so many anti-diabetic properties.

[IMPORTANT - small children or anyone with hypoglycemia should not take bitter melon, nor should you take it if you take insulin]

3. Borage Oil is an excellent anti-diabetic substance due to its high content of the fatty acid gamma linolenic acid (GLA).

The results of GLA supplementation in diabetics are truly astounding - in one study, 12 patients suffering diabetic neuropathy were given 360 mg of GLA daily (the equivalent of two, 1000 mg. Borage oil capsules), while 10 others were given a placebo.

After 6 months the GLA group showed statistically significant improvement as compared to the placebo group

4. Blueberry leaves have a long history of use in the treatment of diabetes.

Something called myrtillin is apparently the most active ingredient.

It's weaker than insulin, but less toxic, even at 50 times the 1 g per day therapeutic dose

A single dose can produce beneficial effects lasting several weeks. Talk to your doctor about this.

5. Read the best book I have ever read on the subject...

The Diabetes Improvement Program is a remarkable book that can help you to normalise blood sugar naturally... and help reverse many symptoms of diabetes.

It promises you could enjoy better vision, more energy, faster healing, regained feeling in your feet, as well as a reduction of various associated risks like kidney disease, strokes and high blood pressure.

That's it for today. Enjoy yourself, and don't go getting too scared about chickens!

Yours as ever,
